Honoring a UND coaching legacy: Gino Gasparini
In Gino Gasparini's 16 years as head coach of the UND men's hockey team, he became the winningest coach in program history.
Gasparini's hockey career at UND began in 1965. He played through the 1967-68 season, serving as captain his senior season.
As head coach, he amassed a career overall record of 392-249-24 (.608) at UND, and went 277-197-21 (.581) in the WCHA. To this day, he remains the winningest coach in UND hockey history.
Gasparini led UND to national titles in 1980, 1982 and 1987, earning accolades as a 3-time WCHA Coach of the Year (1978-79, 1981-82, 1986-87).
From October 4, 1985, to June 30, 1990, Gasparini served the University of North Dakota as its Director of Athletics.
In honor of Coach Gasparini's huge impact at the University of North Dakota and his lifetime of commitment to his players, several of his former student-athletes have established a scholarship endowment in his name.
The scholarship or scholarships will support UND men's hockey student-athletes.
